Questions & answers

What is shrinkable tubing made of?
Shrinkable tubing  are made of plastic. Which type of plastic depends on the temperature range that the shrinktube must be able to withstand. We work primarily with Polyolefin (PELD), but we also have shrinktube in Kynar, Mylar, Viton, Teflon, Silicone, Elastomer, etc.
Can you get shrinkable tubing in other sizes and colors than those shown on the website?
Yes, we can make exactly the size/color that suits your needs.Of course, there is a minimum order, depending on the dimension, but we find out.
Can you get shrinkable tuning with glue?
Yes, we also make shrinkable tubing with glue among other things in the material polyolefin. Shrinkable tubing with glue in the thin wall, medium wall and thick wall shrinkable tubing.
Can Radiflex also produce profiles?
Yes, we also produce profiles, as it is often with the same machine.
What should I use to heat the shrinktube so it shrinks properly?
You will need a suitable heat source when you need to heat the shrinkable tubing in eg. polyolefin.

A lighter will work, but the best result is with a heat gun.

If you are in any doubt, you are always welcome to contact Radiflex.

How does shrinkable tubing of, for example, polyolefin work?
In short, one can divide the production of shrink flex in, for example, polyolefin in

  1. First a hose is produced. The size of the hose is the size that the shrinkage can later shrink down to, for example, 4.8 mm.
  2. Then the tube X-band
  3. So expand the hose to the size that becomes the finished size for example 9.5 mm.

The tube has now become “shrinkable” and ready for use.

When heated on the tube will go back to its original size as it had from the beginning ie step 1.

Can Radiflex cut the shrinkable tubing fore me?
Yes, we have machines that can cut the shrink flex in just the length needed, and even with very small tolerances. We offer to cut the shrinkflex in all dimensions, and both tubes with glue and tubes without glue.

Can you print logo and other things on the shrinkable tubing?
Yes, we can print your logo on the shrink tube, or we can print a text that you choose. Radiflex offers computer printing, and “hotstamp” press. The individual method depends on the choice of material. There can be printed on all types of shrink tube, also those with glue inside, and the print itself can be in all colors, even in gold or silver. The choice is yours.
How do I best cut the shrinkable tubing if I want to cut it myself?
You can cut the shrinkable tubing yourself, on a suitable machine, or manual with a scissors or knife.

Remember that it is important that the cut is made with a sharp scissor or knife. This ensures that the shrinkable tubing does not “crack” or “break”.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call Radiflex.

Can Radiflex produce as "private label"
Yes, Radiflex also produces as a private label for many different industries.
Call us and we will find a solution that suits your needs.
I need Endcaps, do Radiflex have that?
Yes, Radiflex also offers End caps in, for example, the material polyolefin. We have the market’s probably smallest End Caps in the dimension 6/2 mm. (6 mm before shrinkring and 2 mm after full shrinking).
How big/small can you get shrinkable tubing?
Radiflex is able to supply dimensions from 1 mm and up to 500 mm shrinkable tubing. If we do not have the size that fits your project, call us, and we will certainly find the size.
What does shrink ratio mean?
Shrink ratio 2:1 means that the shrinkable tubing shrinks 2:1 in proportion. For example, 16.0 mm shrink down to 8.0 mm (shrink ratio 2:1)

How many shrinkr ratio are there?
As a standard, Radiflex has shrink ratio 2:1, 3:1 and 4:1.
We also offer shrink ratio 6:1.

What is the smallest order?
The minimum order is full spools, or lengths.
With more precise quantities, you will find under the product descriptions.

In which packings does shrink tube exist?
Shrinkable tubing is available in:

  • Spool/roll as standard
  • Lengths as standard
  • Big spool – spools with very large quantities
  • Assortiment bags
  • Assortiment boxes
  • Mini boxes  – small spools

Can the shrinktube withstand sunlight?
The brighter the color is, the weaker the shrinkable tubing is against direct sunlight.
Black color is added to protection against sunlight degradation.
Radiflex produce very special UV-resistant colors and shrinkable tubing.

I want a large/thick wall thickness, so which product should I choose?
If you want a large wall thickness, it is best to choose a thick-walled shrinkable tubing. You can also use a middle wall or thin wall tubing, but then the shrinkable tubing must  shrink far down.

Think of the shrinkable tubing as a balloon blown up. The more you shrink it, the more thickness.

Call us if you are in any doubt, then we will help with good advice.

Does the shrinkable tubing shrink in the length too?
Yes, it can shrink a bit in length.. It is always a good idea to do a small test on for example 10 cm, then you will easily find out how much it exactly shrinks in the length. It varies from product to product, and from batch to batch.
Are there different surfaces on the shrinkable tubing?
There are many different surfaces depending on whether the shrinkable tubing is made in polyolefin or in another material. For example, the type of PO is very shiny on the surface.

The type of FRS is more falt and rubbery. Kynar is an intermediary. And then there are special surfaces for printable shrinkable tubing.

Call us for more information, and we will find the right product for you.

I want a thin-walled thickness, so which product should I choose?
If you want a thin wall thickness, then it is best to choose a thin-walled tubing.
Make sure that the shrinkable tubing does not shrink to much, so you can keep the thin thickness.

Think of the shrinkable tubing as a balloon blown up. The less you shrink it, the smaller the thickness.

Please call Radiflex for more information.

My shrinkable tubing should be firmly seated. What should I do?
You will need a shrinkable tubing with glue (adhesive) inside.
Alternatively, you can buy adhesive tape from Radiflex.
The adhesive tape comes around the item to be shrunk around. Then, the actual shrinkable tubing comes on and shrinks.
The adhesive tape will then melt while shrinking / heating.
Good and stable solution.
Also, make sure that you shrink the shrinkable tubing at least 20% down, Then you get the the best solution, when it is important that the shrinkable tubing should be fixed properly.

Can you get the shrinktube that is cut up lengthwise, like a clutch?
Yes, it’s called a “Wrap around“.

It is a flat piece of shrinkable tubing that comes around the item. And then it attached / assembled with a metal rail. Then it is shrunk in the usual way.
